Multinational watch manufacturer Casio will be celebrating its 50th Watch series anniversary. To immortalize the event on the blockchain, the company has partnered with Astar blockchain to create exclusive commemorative NFTs called the CASIO WATCHES NFTs. Themed around Casio’s iconic timepiece, these collectibles will unlock access to unique experiences within the Casio and Astar ecosystems.
Casio unveiled its first wristwatch called CASIOTRON in 1974. Since then, the manufacturer has introduced several timepieces. The latest among them is G-Shock, a watch series designed to withstand mechanical shock, stress, and vibration. Last year, the Japanese electronics company launched the Virtual G-Shock, a foray into the NFT realm. Potential holders at the time were urged to own one of 15,000 creator passes minted for free on the Polygon network.
Fast forward to the present and Casio doubles down on its NFT adventure by celebrating its iconic timepiece journey on the blockchain. Per an announcement shared by Astar Network, Casio’s 50-year legacy will be commemorated on Yoki Origins, an Astar zkEVM described as a Web3 adventure where users discover supernatural Yoki characters based on the Japanese culture and folklore.
There will be eight CASIO WATCHES NFTs, with each collectible accompanied by artwork from various creators. Each artwork will feature a popular Casio watch. The art pieces will be unveiled on May 10th, “the Reveal Day.”
As part of the drop, 10 lucky winners stand a chance to win an exclusive limited-edition G-Shock wristwatch co-branded by Casio and Astar. These winners will also receive $64.2 (¥10,000) worth of $ASTR coins to explore the Astar ecosystem.
